There are many mistaken beliefs about hypnosis and hypnotherapy. We have explained some of the more frequently asked questions below and would be happy to talk to you if you have any additional questions or concerns.
INITIAL CONTACT & LENGTH OF TREATMENT
You can request an initial telephone conversation to see if hypnosis is for you. This will allow us to get some basic information about you and allow you to ask any questions before taking any decision to progress. Otherwise, if you wish, a no obligation first appointment can be arranged for you to meet a therapist for a face to face discussion
.
The first session is usually 90 minutes. Our therapist will spend time with you to take a clinical history, gain some information on your lifestyle and get to know you better. This discussion contributes to building trust and confidence. A full explanation of what hypnotherapy involves and what it is will be given to you. Goals for therapy are discussed and agreed and any questions will also be dealt with at this time.
If you are willing to proceed, the treatment plan will be outlined and your first hypnosis experience will probably be in this first session
For certain conditions (such as smoking cessation), a single, longer, intensive session may be sufficient but for other problems, the treatment plan may cover 4-7 sessions. These may be weekly of more infrequent depending on the individual’s needs and specific circumstances. As you become familiar with the experience of hypnotherapy, you may find that you are entering a deeper and more relaxing place each time.
Overall, our aim is to provide the most effective treatment and, whilst improvement may be seen after a couple of sessions, some scenarios may require a greater number of sessions based on the presenting problem and personal circumstances. These subsequent sessions will usually last either 60 or 90 minutes. In addition to the sessions, you will probably be taught self-hypnosis and may be given ‘homework’ to support your treatment plan.
WHERE ARE YOU BASED & HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?
We are based in the Auckland area and may consider travelling or conducting remote sessions. We understand that many people are committed during normal working hours and therefore, we are happy to accommodate evening and weekend consultations. Costs may vary with the treatment plan and we can provide further information at the initial contact.
A condition of confirming an appointment is that we reserve the right to levy a fee equal to the treatment costs if an appointment is not kept or is cancelled with less than 48 hours notice.
